Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is an intense combat sport, that requires discipline and respect. This quick guide will break down the basic must know knowledge you’ll want to keep in mind when training at our Academy and when visiting other gyms when it comes to Mat and Dojo Etiquette.

  • Treat everyone with RESPECT! White Belt to Black Belt
  • No shoes on the mat
  • Wear shoes off the mat
  • Always greet your Professor/Coaches when entering and leaving the mat
  • Bow going on and off the mat
  • Stay home if you are sick or have a skin infection
  • Keep good hygiene (Trim your nails wash your Gi, clean your feet in the Defense Foot Station)
  • No chewing gum during class
  • Respect size, age and gender differences
  • Be humble in victory
  • Share your knowledge!
  • Leave drama off the mat
  • Arrive to class on time
  • No spectator coaching. Professor and Coaches only
